- Is this study representative?
Yes. Our companion study, Generations, was conducted by Gallup, a global survey organization that delivers analytics and advice, and surveyed a representative sample of 350,000 U.S. adults. Those who identified as transgender were invited to participate in the TransPop study.
- How is the TransPop study different from other studies about transgender people?
At least three major studies, including TransPop, help to better understand the lives and health care needs of transgender and gender nonconforming people in the U.S.
AFFIRM is the first longitudinal study of transgender identity development across the lifespan. It is a multi-site study focused in New York, San Francisco, and Atlanta, designed to understand how transgender and gender nonconforming people live their lives, affirm their identities, overcome the challenges they encounter, and make a unique contribution to society.
U.S. Trans Survey (USTS) is the largest survey ever devoted to the lives and experiences of transgender people in the U.S. The survey includes the most diverse national sample to date of trans, genderqueer, and nonbinary people and covers a broad array of topics about trans people and their lived experiences, providing critical information for advocates, policymakers, media, and academics.
